Dylan originally recorded the song in 1967 under the name Quinn the Eskimo (Mighty Quinn), but didn't release a version. The song was picked up and recorded by the British band Manfred Mann, who released it under the title Mighty Quinn.

We find Dylan's version of the song on "The Basement Tapes". The songs were recorded in the cellar of his house at the time, which was in Woodstock (hence near the side of the festival). The band called "The Band" back him up on this record. ep.
